Smart & Skilled – Student Pre-Enrolment Guide

Are you eligible?

Most new-entrant trainees are eligible for a government subsidy under Smart and Skilled for the qualification that supports their traineeship.

As a new-entrant trainee, you are eligible to a government subsidy for your traineeship qualification even if you already have a certificate IV or higher qualification.

Australian Apprenticeship Centres determine the eligibility of employees for New Worker Traineeships. ATL can help you contact an Apprenticeship Centre if you do not already use one.

Pre-enrolment Information

Before you enrol, you should read the following information to gain an understanding of the Smart and Skilled Program and the services we offer.



Once we have received notification that you have been registered as a trainee, an ATL representative will meet you in your workplace to complete your enrolment with you and your employer.

At this appointment we will discuss your individual requirements and current skills, and any LLN or other requirements you may have.

You will also need a Unique Student Identifier to enrol with ATL – visit the USI website to register or get more information.
